SHOOTOUT RETURNS TO ALTAMONT MOTORSPORTS PARK

WILTON, California -- Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout returns to Altamont Motorsports Park this coming Saturday, July 24th. Saturday’s 100 lap feature event on Altamont’s fast half-mile will be the eighth race of the 2004 season. In the first seven races this season, seven different winners have taken home the Sunoco Checkered Flag.

Tracy’s Rick Ruzbarsky continues to sit on top of the current point standings. Ruzbarsky grabbed his first victory of 2004 at Stockton 99 Speedway on July 3rd. Anderson’s Ryan Foster trails Ruzbarsky by 18 points. Foster won at Mesa Marin Raceway last month. Sitting third is Jeff Anthony the 2002 Series Champion. Anthony has had a lot of success at Altamont, winning three of four races there in 2003. He also won on May 1st at Altamont this year. Ken Boyd of Ceres, California currently sits fourth. Boyd finished second earlier in the year at Altamont. Rounding out the top five is Modesto’s Steve Belletto. Belletto won the season opener at Altamont on March 20th.

Napa’s Joey Zampa currently sits sixth. Zampa has one win this season along with four top ten finishes. Jeff Belletto picked up his first career SRL win at Madera Speedway on June 19th. Belletto trails Zampa by one point heading into Saturday’s race. Mark Smith of Tracy is currently eighth in the 2004 championship standings. Smith finished fifth at Altamont on May 1st. Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs currently sits 9th, just two points behind Smith. Bolin has two top ten finishes at Altamont Motorsports Park this season. Rounding out the top ten is Troy Ermish of Fremont, California. Ermish finished tenth at Altamont on May 1st.

Mark Smith continues to lead the Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year points. Bakersfield’s Mike Mason is second, followed by Roseville’s Eric Schmidt. In addition to be crowned Rookie of the year at the season ending awards banquet, the 2004 SRL Rookie of the year will be the recipient of a brand new 2004 Victory Circle Chassis. Currently situated in a 38,000 square foot facility in Bakersfield, CA, Victory Circle Chassis and Parts, Inc. is the leader in west coast racecar chassis design and fabrication.

Ryan Foster has qualified in the top five in five of the first seven races this season, including setting fast time at Altamont on May 1st. Foster leads Ken Boyd (19-15) in the Apex Financial Group Qualifying Points. The drivers in the series will be competing for the Apex Financial Group qualifying championship award of $5,000.00. The money will be divided between the top three in qualifying points. Apex Financial Group is based in Stockton, California and specializing in home loans and the refinancing of property.

Chad Pais leads Jeremy Hopkins Jr., Aaron Days, Justin Offenbach, and Steve Yatsko in the SRL Late Model Qualifying Race Points.

An on track driver’s autograph session is scheduled before the start of the 100 lap feature event. All of the fans are invited to join the SRL drivers and their cars on the front straightaway.
