MADERA, California -- Earning top Autometer Rookie honors and an 11th place finish at Round 8 of the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series, July 17th at Madera Speedway moved Nick Lynch and Lynch Mob Motorsports up the ladder in both the overall and rookie point's chase.
"We gained a little ground this weekend," said Lynch, "and, if we can just keep it up, we should be in the top ten shortly. I am familiar with many of the upcoming tracks and with all the things we've learned so far this season, I feel we can score some strong finishes."
Gridded in the Number 1 spot due to a ten-car inverted start, Lynch powered his No. 29 Mr. Gas/Yerf-Dog Chevy off the Startline in fine fashion. "Our Mr. Gas/Yerf-Dog Chevy was running really well," said Lynch, who took over the lead on Lap 23. We led a number of laps and probably would have continued to stay up in the top three if we hadn't gotten punted from behind. Our Chevy wasn't the same from then on and hanging on got pretty tough."
In fact, tough is probably a mild description as Lynch is driving with a cast from his wrist to his elbow due to a broken navicular suffered at Infineon Raceway. "You do what you have to do," said Lynch. "I wasn't about to sit out races. Its fine when our Chevy is running well, but when it gets to be a handful, it makes things a little difficult. But its nothing I can't handle. The next race up is Stockton, July 31st. We took 9th there earlier this season. Hopefully this time we can better that.![]()
