Saturday, July 24th, A Super Hot Day found the Northwest Street Stock Tour in Hermiston, Oregon at Race City for a 75 Lap event that was shortened to 50 due to the extreme 103 plus temps. Mike Aubrey ran a 17.11 for fast time of the evening.
The A Trophy dash was locked up at the end by the #20 of Brad Stanwood followed by #15 Shawn Aubrey, #33 Brian Overturf and #51 Mike Aubrey.
Jay Estes #67clenched the win in the B dash with #45 George Guiberson, #73 Kevin Martell, and the #77 of Pete Kelly in tow. Most cars were running warm as the pit temperatures exceeded 110 degrees during the hottest part of the day.
The A heat race was won by #33 Brian Overturf followed by #82 Rhett Dailey, #20 Brad Stanwood, #51 Mike Aubrey, #15 Shawn Aubrey, #27 Grant Baker and #71 Chris Schlaht who expired an engine and retired for the evening. A lot of action and position swapping was seen in both heat races, as the point’s battle is tight this year. #67 of Jay Estes won the B heat followed by #45 George Guiberson, #7 Greg Taylor, #73 Kevin Martell, #77 Pete Kelly, Mike Crase in the #13 for the night and #42 Susan Nelson. The #2 of Larry Gaylord lost an engine in practice and failed to start the evening.
The Main event saw a lot of 3 wide action and position changes during the entire event as normal for the tour. The #67 of Jay Estes caught the invert and led from the start until the one and only caution of the night came at lap 27 as Kevin Martell lost control and hit the #27 of Grant Baker exiting pit road ending both of their nights. As the track was cleaned the heat took its toll as Estes restarted in the lead and was quickly overtaken by the 20 of Brad Stanwood as Estes engine was losing power with 260 degree temps, Stanwood kept the lead the rest of the way for his second win in a row. The finish was #20 Stanwood, #33 Overturf, #51 M. Aubrey, #15 S. Aubrey, #67 Estes, #45 Guiberson, #82 Dailey, #77 Kelly, #42 Nelson, and #13 Crase rounding out the top ten. Congratulations Brad!
The Racing Wheels Newspaper Pole Award goes to Mike Aubrey; While Brian Overturf #33 earned the Racing Wheels Hard Charger Award for gaining 6 positions in the Main. The Affordable Clutch and Brake Hot Shoe Award was attempted again by the #51 of Mike Aubrey but again rolls to the next race.
