STOCKTON, California -- Burney Lamar picked up his fourth top- four finish Saturday night in the " AutoZone 125" on the Stockton (CA) 99 Speedways quarter-mile oval in the ninth race of the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division - Southwest Series schedule.
Although he picked up his third Bud Pole Award of the season during qualifying, an eight-car invert put him on the outside of the fourth row at the green flag. Working his way up to fourth, on lap 35, according to Burney, "I was in fourth or fifth place and working on a car, and went to the outside. I don't know whether his spotter didn't tell him, or really what the problem was, but he came up and put me in the fence. It messed up the toe-in and it never handled right after that. I hung on to it for the rest of the night, and, hey, fourth is better than last."
In the last four races, Lamar has put his Groeniger/HPS Mechanical/ Tri-C/ Victory Circle Chassis Chevrolet into the winners circle once, and has a second, third, and Saturdays fourth. His Bud Pole Award was his third this season, and ninth in his Southwest Series career. He currently stands third in the Series point standings.
The next event on the Southwest Series schedule is August 21st at Colorado
National Speedway, where Lamar holds the Series qualifying track record.![]()
