MONROE, Washington -- The North American Big Rig Racing Association brought their 10,00lb, 1200 horse power trucks to Evergreen Speedway’s 3/8-mile oval. Glenn Creed from Victoria, BC, Canada took the checkers with his Ford Louiville. The traveling North West Pro 4 Truck Tour made their fist trip to Evergreen a successful visit. Fast qualifier Kevin Brown followed that up with a win in the main. Three Figure Eight Divisions were in action. The Super Division’s John Carlson, the Extreme Contact Division’s Steve Peters and the Stinger Eight Division’s Greg Estes were all victorious. Two large road course mains for the Hertz Equipment Rental Hornets were won by Mark Light and Rod Helmuth.

Ground pounding action was the word used to describe the NABRRA trucks when 13 took to the track for their 35-lap main. Early leader Mike Gibbons of Rochester, WA had the crowd chanting USA, USA. On a restart the strong Canadian contingent of drivers shuffled Mike back to third. The race ended under red flag conditions with 4-laps to go after Peter “Pinkfoot” VanDyck blew a tire and crashed on the backstretch resulting in major front end damage. Glenn Creed of Victoria, BC Canada won for the second time at Evergreen and Eckville, Alberta, Canada’s Darren Berdahl was second.

The NW Pro-4 Truck Tour made their first ever appearance at Evergreen Speedway. These 4-cylinder powered race trucks put on an excellent race with Kevin Brown using lapped traffic to fend off Bob Coffey. Mike Clark just beat, by inches, Terry Warren for third.

Super Figure Eight driver John Carlson won for a fifth straight time as he closed in on Steve Peters for the championship. Carlson took the lead midway through the 30-lap main and as in previous weeks never looked back. Doug Delfel finished second and Peters was third.

Steve Peters followed up his third in the Super Division with a win in the Extreme Contact Figure Eight main. He caught point and race leader Troy Simianer 10-laps into the main and used the contact rule to spin Simianer around. Simianer had to go to the pits with a flat tire. Noah Chandler remained within striking distance to finish second while Josh Beckel took third.

The Stinger Eights started 16-cars and somehow Greg Estes made it to the finish line first. The race was filled with spinning cars and a lot of indecision at the X. Shawn Drew was second and Rod Helmuth was third.

The Hertz Equipment Rental Hornets held two main events on a make shift road course to accommodate the large number of cars. The first main was won by Bill Wade. Wade’s victory was taken away after it was discovered he came out in the wrong main event. The win was awarded to second place finisher Mark Light. In the second main there was no confusion as Rod Helmuth showed his road racing prowess to the rest of the group in his main.

Next up at Evergreen Speedway is the Everett Herald NASCAR ‘Five Star’ Program. The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Super Stocks, Randy’s Ring & Pinion NASCAR Street Stock Bombers, NASCAR Mini-Stocks are joined by the three Figure Eight Divisions in a full night of racing on Saturday August.
