BAKERSFIELD, California -- Burney Lamar, fresh off of five straight top-four finishes in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division - Southwest Series, will be among the favorites this Saturday night when the Series invades the 3/8's mile oval at Colorado National Speedways in Erie, CO. for the "United Power/Touchstone Energy 150", the tenth event on the 2004 schedule.
Lamar, currently third in the Series point standings, holds the Series stock car qualifying record at CNS which he set in August of 2002, at 15.736 sec., 85.791 mph.. The W. Sacramento driver, who will be 24 years old Saturday, has a win in his five-race stretch, and says he'd really like to get another one at this event. "This is near the home of my engine builder, Dave Capriotti, who has supplied me with awesome engines during my years on the Tour, and I'd like nothing better than to get him another win at his home track".
The 2001 rookie of the year in the Southwest Series started his string of top-fours at Stockton 99 Speedway with a third place finish and followed that with a win at Irwindale Speedway. Next came a second place at Infineon Raceway, another third at Madera Speedway, and the fourth place finish, again at Stockton 99 Speedway a little over two weeks ago.
Despite his recent strong finishes, Lamar said, "We've had what I think was a winning car several times this year, but due to some bad luck, we've only got the one win. Hopefully, CNS will be different".
