INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- Somebody was finally able to stop Greg Anderson and his 2004 hot streak at the 23rd annual Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn., on Sunday.
That somebody was 21-year-old Ringers driver, Dave Connolly.
On Connolly’s fifth Pro Stock final round appearance with Anderson this year, he put a halt to Anderson tying a single season win record of 13 held by John Force.
To add insult to injury, Connolly beat Anderson at what is considered his home track, with Anderson being from nearby Duluth.
Connolly took his first Pro Stock win, in only 29 starts, in his Bullet Motorsports Cavalier with a 6.799/203.31 mph run to Anderson’s 6.818/202.97 mph run.
In Top Fuel, Tony Schumacher advanced to his third final in four races, to meet Kalitta team driver, David Grubnic.
But, Schumacher stopped Grubnic’s hopes of his first career win with Shoe’s run of 4.615/321.96 mph run.
Schumacher now extends his Top Fuel points lead by 122 over Doug Kalitta.
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) heads south to Memphis for the 17th annual O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park.
The American Speed Association (ASA) National Tour returned to the newly repaved Jennerstown Speedway in Jennerstown, Penn., on Saturday night.
Ringers supporter Toby Porter brought home his first ASA career win.
Other Ringers notables in the field were Mike Garvey, third; Reed Sorenson, fourth; Kevin Cywinski, sixth; Rich Loch, 10th (first top-10 career finish); Peter Cozzolino, 11th; Butch Miller, 13th; Todd Kluever, 15th; John Dalziel, 18th and Davin Scites, 24th.
In other racing over the weekend, Ringers supporters Rob Atchison and Brad Ellingson also had winning weekends.
Atchison, who drives an IHRA Drag Racing Funny Car, picked up a win at the Torco Race Fuels IHRA Northern Nationals in Martin, Mich., and Brad Ellingson of Madison, Wis., clinched the 2004 SCCA Central Division Area 5 Regional Championship.
