DOUG MCCOMB SECURES THE IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY, 2004 AUTO CLUB LATE MODEL CHAMPIONSHIP

THOUSAND OAKS, California -- With one point race remaining on September 18th, Doug McComb, 27, of Thousand Oaks, California, has secured the 2004 Irwindale Speedway Late Model Championship. McComb started the August 21st race with a 38 point lead advantage and clinched the championship by winning the main event and extending his point lead to 52 (the maximum points awarded for a 1st place finish are 50). Even if McComb is unable to start the race on September 18th, he will be crowned Champion.

McComb, who drives for Victory Circle Chassis & Parts, Inc. out of Bakersfield, California, has waited for this moment for a long time. "I worked hard and drove consistent and patient all season long", said McComb. McComb credits his success to the enormous opportunity provided by Les Denherder and Craig Raudman of Victory Circle. They saw McComb’s potential, went with it, and it has paid off.

This is McComb’s third season in the Late Model division at Irwindale Speedway, and by far his most successful. The Championship has been a team effort by his hard working crew, sponsors; Victory Circle, Pick-A-Part, Elliot, Snyder & Reid, McCurdy & Leibl, Watkins Engine Development, Corporate Benefit Marketing, BG Products/PetroSpecs, Inc., Ron’s Rear Ends, Division sponsor Auto Club of Southern California, and the support of his family.

None of it would be possible without the vast dedication of his Crew Chief, Chris Greaney of Finishline Motorsports. Greaney has previous experience in the Grand National West Series and Southwest Tour. He brings a lot to the table and he and McComb have had a great working connection.

McComb has aspirations of someday soon repeating his accomplishments in a NASCAR touring division. "I want to do what I love for a living and have fun doing it", said McComb.

Fans and media have consistently praised McComb for his enthusiastic and positive attitude about racing. He finds fun in the sport no matter what happens, good or bad.

This victory and accomplishment will be celebrated for a long time to come.####
