STOCKTON, California -- The HAVOLINE/CL BRYANT Tri Holiday 100-lap Classic will run its final leg this Saturday. More than 20 Western Late Model style cars are expected to thunder around the NASCAR quarter-mile oval!
Stockton’s Danny Contessotto is holding a strong lead, but, there is a close points battle between the Classic’s top three: Stockton’s Danny Contessottto (93), Turlock’s Chris Monez (90) and Pacific Grove’s Dave Byrd (83). The close race, and the other additional drivers that show up for the Classic, should make for one exciting night of racing. In addition to the close race between the top three, as many as 14 racers could take the Classic.
The Tri Holiday 100 isn’t all that racing fans should keep their eyes on Saturday Night.
Pure Stock drivers will be running for double points -- this could make or break Galt’s John Medina, the leader who is neck-and-neck in points standings with Stockton’s Richard Harper. These two competitors, sharing the track with the ever powerful Charlie Clawson, of Modesto, and his teammate Ken "The Rat" Ratcliff, of Stockton, both racing at peak performance, will make for one exciting race!
And who will earn Western Late Model Rookie of the Year? That question is still up in the air. Saturday’s 30-lap main may answer it. Stockton rookies Joey Stearns and Gary Shafer Jr. Have both won mains this season, and both have been running strong over the past few weeks. However, Lodi's Mike Garcia and Chochilla's Eric Humphries are both looking for their first main event wins as rookies -- this race will be great!
USAC Western States Sprint Cars will race, as many as 25, from as far away as Indiana, will compete. The BCRA will hold its MIDGET title race, the last of the season. As an added bonus, Miniature Motorsports Racing Association’s 8-to-16-year-old drivers will race in mini Nextel cup cars.
