ROCKLIN, California -- Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) with driver Austin Cameron recorded their fourth win this season in the NASCAR Grand National Division West Series by winning the “NAPA AUTO PARTS 200” at Rocky Mountain Raceway on Labor Day. Cameron, driver of the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS/NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolet and the BMR team are second in the series championship point standings with five races remaining in the season.
Starting on the inside of row two, the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet lost a position but by lap 30 regained third. At lap 102 of the 200 lap race, teammate Kerry Earnhardt in the #20 NAPA Belts & Hose/NASCAR Select by NAPA Filter Chevrolet was in close pursuit running in fourth after starting in 13th. The fifth and final caution of the race came out at lap 152. The BMR teams with crew chiefs, Doug George and Mario Isola decided not to make any pit stops which moved the teams in position two and three after one of the race leaders came in for tires. With 18 laps remaining, Cameron challenged for the lead and successfully passed the current series point leader to win the “NAPA AUTO PARTS 200”. Earnhardt and the #20 NAPA Belts & Hose team would finish the race in sixth and gain four positions in the overall series point standings. Earnhardt is running in 18th after only 4 starts.
“This was another example of the BMR team’s capabilities,” said Cameron. “The car was setup for how it would run for the 200 laps and not so much on the one lap of qualifying. I think that is what got us this win. We knew we had a good, competitive car and we ran consistent laps. We didn’t wear the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS or the #20 NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolets out. The teams made smart decisions on the track and were patient as possible. We’re keeping our focus on our goal of winning races and bringing our sponsor NAPA AUTO PARTS a fourth series championship.”
BMR has always had great support from their sponsors, NAPA AUTO PARTS and NAPA Belts & Hose at the raceway. NAPA Hospitality with several hundred store owners, employees and customers from the Salt Lake area were visited by drivers, Kerry Earnhardt and Austin Cameron before the race. They also took a tour of the garage area and walked through one of the BMR team transporters. The ‘NAPA AUTO PARTS 200” can be seen on SPEED Channel November 6th. Check your local listings.
