
UKIAH, California -- Eric Schmidt of Roseville took the $3,000 win in the 75 lap North State Late Model Challenge Series finale Sunday night at Ukiah Speedway. Schmidt, driving his SBC sponsored Monte Carlo earned the outside pole position by finishing second in the nine car fast heat. 21 Late Models started the Feature with pole sitter Mike Doss leading the way. Schmidt settled into third place in the opening laps but made his way around Howard Ford by lap seven to claim second. With three cautions out of the way by lap eleven, Schmidt driving a new Lefthander for GS Racing set his sights on Doss. On lap fifteen Schmidt got under Doss going into turn one and took the lead. Schmidt held onto the lead through three more cautions working his way past lap traffic. On lap 54 Eric Graham passed C J Bawden and began his pursuit of Schmidt. The seventh and final caution waived on lap 72 setting up a three-lap dash for the win. On the restart, Graham got under Schmidt coming off the backstretch but Schmidt would gain the advantage going into the next corner. Coming off turn four on the final lap, Graham got under Schmidt again but spun out as Schmidt pulled away and went on to claim the win with Cattanach, Bawden, Binns and Nissen rounding out the top five.
