Consistency has been the goal from the beginning for the DS Racing crew, and that goal was met again this weekend at Tri-City Raceway as Travis Bennett piloted the #33 Bowmans Electro Painting/Zebs Truck Stop- Speedway Cafe/Knudson Lumber Chevrolet to another 5th place finish. The only driver to finish in the top 10 in all 10 events so far, Bennett is now sitting second in points knocking on the door of leader Garrett Evans.
The day started off just right as Bennett got on the track for practice. The car was fast and that proved to be true as Travis put in his best qualifying effort of the season, 2nd behind Bud Pole winner Brandon Riehl. With a 6 car invert, Bennett started on the inside of row 3. Travis maneuvered his way through the field throughout all 127 laps as the race ended in a green/white/checkered and would come across the line in 5th for his 6th top 5 of the season. Points leader Garrett Evans and runner up Jason Jefferson both encountered problems during the race putting them both down several laps and closing up the points gap.
Now with only 2 events remaining, Travis sits only 6 points out of the championship title and still leads the Rookie of the year standings by 38 points. "We had a great car at Tri-Cities. When my brother told me that both Garrett and Jason were in the pits, I didn't blink another time. I just wanted to make sure that I got a good solid finish to move up in the points," said Bennett. "I just have to thank my crew. They have given me such a good car all year, I just couldn't ask for better people."
As the season winds down, what once was a thought has now become a reality as the points have closed in. "I cant believe we are sitting second in points with two races left. This is like a dream and I just plan on fulfilling it. I'll do whatever it takes!", says the determined Bennett.
DS Racing would like to thank Bowmans Electro Painting, Zebs Truck Stop - Speedway Cafe, and Knudson Lumber for their continued support and enthusiasm throughout the 2004 season.![]()
