Jim Pettit II, owner and driver of the HotWood 03 Ford, leads in the points as the AutoZone Southwest Series heads to Tucson, Arizona. This will be the 11th race of the 2004 season. With only four races remaining until the championship is decided, each race is becoming more significant than the last.
With a twenty-five point lead Pettit is glad to once again be leading the way. I asked Jim what he thought about his current situation and heading back to Tucson driving the only Ford to attempt every race this year. He said, “You know we are real happy to be leading in the points standings again.
This is a tough series with a lot of great drivers. The team has done an amazing job, and we can’t wait to get to Tucson.
Tucson is a place where we have run well, and with luck on our side we should have a great finish.” In Pettit’s two prior visits to the Tucson Raceway he has two top-ten finishes.
Great finishes are something that has become the norm for Pettit and the HotWood 03 team this year. Out of the first ten races Pettit has only three finishes outside the top- five. In a series where some racers go an entire season without a top-five, Pettit seems to have marked out his territory. Regardless of his starting position the veteran driver always seems to end up running in the front.
With the lead and momentum heading to Tucson, the Pettit Racing 03 team would like to recognize California HotWood for their continued loyalty and sponsorship. Pettit Racing would also like to recognize DPI, LRP, and Top of The Hill Performance. The entire Jim Pettit Racing/HotWood 03 family invites everyone to meet Jim and the rest of the crew after the race in Tucson on the 18th of September.![]()
