
WILTON, California -- Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Shootout heads North to the newly configured Shasta Raceway Park this coming Saturday, September 18th, for the Foster Well Drilling “100”. After the first eight races of 2004, Steve Belletto and Rick Ruzbarsky lead the tight championship battle. Belletto and Ruzbarsky each with 382 points look to leave Shasta Raceway Park with the points lead.
Sitting quietly in third place is Ken Boyd. Boyd is looking for his first series win of 2004, as he trails Belletto and Ruzbarsky by just 7 points. 2002 Champion Jeff Anthony has captured two Sunoco Checkered Flags this season and is just 19 points out of the top spot. Rounding out the top five is Anderson’s own Ryan Foster. Foster won at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield on June 5th.
With two top five finishes in the last two races, Tracy’s Mark Smith is one of two Victory Circle Rookie of the Year contenders in the top 10 point standings. Winning at Stockton 99 Speedway on March 28th, and finishing third at Mesa Marin last month is Joey Zampa. Zampa trails Smith by 3 points in the seventh position. Tracy Bolin has five top ten finishes to his credit this season. The Valley Springs driver is looking to score his sixth top ten finish this weekend. Fremont’s Troy Ermish finished eight at Mesa Marin in August. Ermish is looking for a solid performance this weekend, as he trails Tracy Bolin by 21 points. Rounding out the top ten is Victory Circle Rookie of the Year Contender Mike Mason of Bakersfield. Mason carries a lot of momentum into Shasta Raceway Park, as the teenager led every lap to score his first victory at Mesa Marin on August 7th.
Tracy's Mark Smith continues to lead the 2004 Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the year point standings. Bakersfield's Mike Mason is currently second, followed by Roseville’s Eric Schmidt. In addition to be crowned Rookie of the year at the season ending awards banquet, the 2004 SRL Rookie of the year will be the recipient of a brand new 2004 Victory Circle Chassis. Currently situated in a 38,000 square foot facility in Bakersfield, CA, Victory Circle Chassis and Parts, Inc. is the leader in west coast racecar chassis design and fabrication.
Ceres’ Ken Boyd leads the Apex Financial Group Qualifying Points. Boyd has a one point lead over Anderson’s Ryan Foster (25-24). In the last five races, Boyd has set quick time three times, and was second quick on the other two occasions. The drivers in the series will be competing for the Apex Financial Group qualifying championship award of $5,000.00. The money will be divided between the top three in qualifying points. Apex Financial Group is based in Stockton, California and specializing in home loans and the refinancing of property.
Chad Pais leads Jeremy Hopkins Jr., Aaron Days, Justin Offenbach, and Steve Yatsko in the SRL Late Model Qualifying Race Points.
