Evergreen Speedway Drivers and Officials went away Sunday evening very frustrated after a day of trying to get some racing in. The weekend that on paper was to be the biggest ever Late Model / Tour / Super Stock gathering at the fabled race track was forced again on Sunday to cancel racing for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Super Stocks and The Late Model Challenge Series.

The rain moved in on Friday about 1-hour into the practice session. On Saturday a hard steady rain forced cancellation of the NASCAR Auto Zone Elite Division Northwest Series 125 , NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Super Stock Snap On Tools 75 Championship and the RPM Sales & Service Late Model Challenge Series 75-lap Championship. The Super Stocks and LMCS events were moved to Sunday. The Concept Racing Open Competition Challenge Cup Late Model feature was canceled for Sunday to make room for the rescheduled events.

Sunday the cars took to the track for practice and then qualifying. As the last few cars were qualifying a light shower turned into a heavy shower wetting the track. A large group of private and track vehicles worked for an hour to get the track dried. Their task was almost complete when a downpour with thunder & lightning wet the track even worse. After the rain stopped about ½-hour later another attempt at drying the track was under way. At 5:30pm yet another shower passed over the track and the track was back to shiny wet. It was at that time Officials knew that all the work was futile. A 6pm curfew on Sunday’s also complicated matters.

There was a great field of cars on hand for the two championships and the Open Competition Street Stocks. A total of 60 plus cars were on pit road and 76 were there on Saturday. Track officials were pleased with the turn out of cars and will be scheduling a similar event next season.

The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series ended today and Evergreen did not get the 18th race in, leaving John Zaretzke on the outside looking in. Zaretzke had an opportunity to win the Weekly Series Northwest Region Championship. The Regional Champion receives over $40K and an audition for the Ray Everham NASCAR Craftsman Truck Team.

Congratulations to John Zaretzke and Ron Wolf on their respective championships. They both would have preferred to finish the season on the race track.

Next up at Evergreen Speedway on Saturday September 25th is the season finale Giant Demolition Derby/Fireworks, Roll-Over Contest, School Bus Figure Eights, 3-Car Train Races, Boat Races and the Hertz Equipment Rental Hornets. Action gets under way at 7pm. This season ending rain or shine event has always drawn large crowds.

Adults $15.50; Jr/Sr & Military $9.50; Children $4.50 and under 6 are free. A family pass for 2-Adults and up to 4-Children is $40.00.####
