WOODS OVERCOMES PROBLEMS FOR GOOD FINISH IN OREGONNASCAR GRAND NATIONAL DIVISION, WEST SERIES
Source: Gene Woods Racing
![]() ROSEBURG, Oregon -- Gene Woods overcame a variety of problems, including the absence of his crew chief, to bring the Monster Energy Drinks/Circle K Food Stores Dodge Intrepid home in a good 12th place in the rain extended NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg Oregon. In doing so Gene gained ground in the points standings as he heads into Phoenix only 15 points out of ninth place in the Grand National West points standings. "We went to race short handed without our crew chief Mike Fisk, suffering from kidney stones. That made it tough on us but our car chief Keith Bishop did a great job filling in for Mike. We had a push in the car we just never got out until the end of the race, when by that time I had taken about 25 turns of front brake out of the adjuster. "We were suffering from brake problems all night and the next day. We started out Saturday night 12th and were very tight going into the corners. The problem is if you can’t make it go in the corners you can’t make it come off the corners. We lost a lap about 50 laps into the race and the only good thing about Saturday night was rain stopped the race about 60 laps in. This allowed us to make a few adjustments for the next morning when we finished the race after they put the cars in impound for the night.
"We were fair the next day, not loosing anymore laps to the leaders all day, and by the end of the race we able to run with the fast guys again, but it was too late to gain any more ground. We’re really looking forward to Phoenix to see how the new Monster Dodge runs on the mile".
