David Gilliland and the MRG Motorsports Team are hoping to do something at Phoenix International Raceway that no one else has ever been able to accomplish. The team is pulling double-duty double at the NASCAR Double Header weekend. While no competitor has ever pulled off both victories, the buzz around the track is that Gilliland stands the best chance to do just that.
In the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series Gilliland put in a very impressive qualifying lap and will start from the 3rd spot for the Subway 150.
It was a very similar story on the other side of the garage as the #88 NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series car was consistently near the top of the speed charts during practice. Gilliland qualified the car in 5th spot for the JC Glass 100.
"We are very happy with the setups on both cars. The cars are fast, but I think they will race even better," stated Gilliland. "The whole team put a lot of sweat into the cars this weekend in close to triple-digit weather, what better way to cool them off than with a nice victory champagne shower."
Fans can watch Gilliland compete for the wins live on HDNet.
The NASCAR Southwest Series, Elite Division race will air live on HDNet at 1:00pm MST (check your local listing).
The NASCAR Grand National West race is scheduled to start at 3:00pm MST, Sunday, October 3rd. The race will also be broadcast tape-delayed on SPEED Channel at Noon ET on December 4th.
