ANDERSON, California Eric Schmidt of Roseville (Calif.) dominated the Win River 150 at Shasta Raceway Park Sunday afternoon on his way to victory for the second time in three years in the prestigious annual open comp event.
Schmidt began the three day event by setting fast time in qualifying and coming from 11th place in the fast heat to finish fourth giving him the outside 2nd row starting position in the Feature. Schmidt took his SBC sponsored Monte Carlo to the front by the end of the first lap and never relinquished the lead. Schmidt began to put competitors down a lap within the first twenty laps and had the entire field lapped except runner-up Steve Gannon by the end of the race.
Schmidt, driving a GS Racing prepared Lefthander, controlled the pace all day still running laps in the low 16's at the end of the race. The only threat to Schmidt came on lap 87 when Roger Gannon got under him on a restart as they came off turn four. Gannon slid up into Schmidt's door and made contact but spun out as Schmidt powered away. "This was a team effort, our guys tuned on the car right up to the start of the race. Our crew chief Eric Snyder did his homework on the set up and it showed," said team owner Frank Jordan.
GS Racing and Eric Schmidt wish to thank their sponsors for their great support this season, SBC Smart Yellow Pages, Smartpages.com, Ramos Oil, Joiner Motorsports, Inventory Sales Co. Sacramento Prestige Gunite, Western Baler & Conveyor, Valley Stair, JM Environmental, 5 Star Performance Insulation, Long Engine Systems, Racing Stripes, Harris Industrial Gases and a new sponsor for this race, River City Pools and Pool Plastering of Redding.
