CHAMPIONSHIP UP FOR GRABS AS SHOOTOUT RETURNS TO ALTAMONT

WILTON, California -- Ten Races down, one remaining. Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Shootout returns to Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, California this coming Saturday, October 9th for the season finale. The Championship battle is as tight as it has ever been. The top five drivers are only separated by 30 points heading into the 8th Annual Snap-on Tool Run 100 lap feature event.

Ken Boyd took over the point lead after a fourth place finish at Shasta Raceway Park on September 18th. Boyd is winless in 2004 but he has accumulated five top fives, and ten top ten finishes. Boyd’s best finish of the year came at Altamont on July 24th where he finished second. The Ceres, California driver has set quick time at the last three events. Modesto’s Steve Belletto trails Ken Boyd by just two points (424-422). Belletto won the season-opener at Altamont Motorsports Park on March 20th. Since then Belletto has finished in the top five on five different occasions, including two second places finishes at Mesa Marin Raceway. Tracy’s Rick Ruzbarsky led the championship standings since the second race of the 2004 season. After a tenth place finish at Shasta Raceway Park, Ruzbarsky finds himself in third place, just 10 points behind current point leader Ken Boyd. Ruzbarsky won on July 3rd at Stockton 99 Speedway. In then three previous visits to Altamont this year, Ruzbarsky has finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Jeff Anthony the 2002 Series Champion trails Boyd by 19 points from the fourth position. Anthony has two victories under his belt in 2004, both of those coming on Altamont’s half-mile track. Jeff Anthony also set fast time at Altamont on March 20th. Rounding out the top five, only 30 points behind current point leader Ken Boyd is Anderson’s Ryan Foster. Foster has won twice this year, once at Mesa Marin Raceway, and the other at Shasta Raceway Park on September 18th. The 2003 SRL Rookie of the Year has one top five and two top ten finishes at Altamont this year. Napa’s Joey Zampa won the second race of the year at Stockton 99 Speedway on March 28th. Joey currently sits sixth in the overall point standings. Tracy’s Mark Smith trails Zampa by 6 points. Smith has already locked up the Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year point standings. Troy Ermish has two top ten finishes in the last two races. The Fremont, California driver is currently in the eight position. Tracy Bolin had mechanical problems at Shasta Raceway Park and did not start the Foster Well Drill “100”. Bolin moves down one spot to the ninth position. Seventeen year old Mike Mason of Bakersfield, California continues to hold onto the tenth position. Mason led every lap en route to his first career victory at Mesa Marin Raceway on August 7th.

Mark Smith of Tracy clinched the 2004 Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the year award at Shasta Raceway Park on September 18th. Bakersfield's Mike Mason is currently second, followed by Roseville’s Eric Schmidt. In addition to be crowned Rookie of the year at the season ending awards banquet, the 2004 SRL Rookie of the year will be the recipient of a brand new 2004 Victory Circle Chassis. Currently situated in a 38,000 square foot facility in Bakersfield, CA, Victory Circle Chassis and Parts, Inc. is the leader in west coast racecar chassis design and fabrication.

Ceres’ Ken Boyd leads the Apex Financial Group Qualifying Points. Boyd has a two point lead over Anderson’s Ryan Foster (30-28). Boyd has set quick time at the last three races. The drivers in the series will be competing for the Apex Financial Group qualifying championship award of $5,000.00. The money will be divided between the top three in qualifying points. Jeff Belletto currently sits third with 11 points and Rick Ruzbarsky fourth with 10 points. Apex Financial Group is based in Stockton, California and specializing in home loans and the refinancing of property.

Chad Pais leads Jeremy Hopkins Jr., Aaron Days, Justin Offenbach, and Steve Yatsko in the SRL Late Model Qualifying Race Points.
