BAKERSFIELD, California - – Over six hundred local middle school students were on hand at Mesa Marin Raceway for an annual career day titled “Careers on a Fastrack”. For the fifth consecutive year, Mesa Marin has brought together over twenty local businesses to set up interactive displays for the students to explore their future career opportunities.
“This is always a highlight of our year, we bring together an exciting environment with educating the students about local career opportunities.” stated event coordinator, Judy Salamacha.
Careers on a Fastrack featured an impressive list of guest speakers, which included Mayor Harvey Hall, Kern County Sheriff Mack Wimbish, Fire Chief Doug Greener, Race Driver Dan Holtz, and Penny Fulton from Kern Schools Federal Credit Union. After the guest speaker presentations, the students were treated to NASCAR AutoZone Northwest Series Rookie-of-the-Year Travis Bennett, taking a few laps around Mesa Marin Raceway in a NASCAR Late Model, to the students cheering approval.
After the students visited each companies presentation and display, the day ended with the students boarding their respective school buses and touring around the high-banked Mesa Marin half-mile on their way back to class.
