Audra Sasselli of Fresno, Calif. headlines the Ford Focus Midgets debut as part of the Orleans Hotel and Casino USAC Sprint Car and Midget Nationals at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday.
The division originally was scheduled to make its debut in April, but due to inclement weather the event was rescheduled.
Sasselli, one of two women who compete in the series, is fresh off a win at Irwindale Speedway last weekend and is sixth in the North Division point standings. The 28-year-old has two wins this season and looks to take her momentum into this weekend to shoot for her third.
“I have a lot of momentum after my win,” Sasselli said. “We came (to the Bullring) at the beginning of the season but it rained out, so I don’t know what to expect.
I’m really excited. I hear it is a fast track.”
In 2002 Sasselli competed in Modified Mini-Sprints 600 cc and accumulated approximately 50 wins. She also has competed in go-karts.
The event features the Ford Focus Midgets (25 laps), the Valvoline Western Sprint Cars (40 laps), Western Midget Cars (40 laps) and the Western Racing Association (WRA) Midgets and Sprints (10 laps).
Qualifying is set for 4:30 p.m., an on-track driver autograph session is schedule for 6 and racing begins at 7.
