BAKERSFIELD, California -- Pulling off a top ten finish is exactly what Todd Souza, driver for Fred Penney Racing, needed to do to secure his top-ten position in the points race in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series. Souza campaigned his No. 6 Money By Design/Golfland/Sierra Mist Chevrolet Monte Carlo to a seventh place finish in the Ford Motorcraft 150 at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield (Calif.) Saturday, October 16, 2004.
“Todd did an excellent job for us here tonight,” said team owner Fred Penney. “He took a beat-up car with a broken header all the way to a great finish. Only two guys in our points race finished ahead of us.”
Souza’s seventh-place finish on the high-banked half-mile track moved him up two spots to seventh in overall points in the Series. The top ten drivers at end of the season are invited to participate in the coveted NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown Nov.11-13 at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.
The Aromas, Calif. driver and 1994 Mesa Marin Grand American Modified Champion will defend his standing this Sunday the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series StarNursery.com 150 at Tucson Raceway Park in Arizona.
SPEED Channel will provide an enhanced replay of the The Ford Motorcraft 150 at Mesa Marin Raceway on Dec. 18.
