Steve Park, , driver of the No. 62 Orleans Dodge in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, will be competing in the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway Oct. 23.
Park has multiple starts at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, but this will be only his 2nd time to start in a truck. The driver and truck will have their work cut out for them, as the track has not been kind to either. The best finish was a ninth by Brendan Gaughan in 2002. Park’s best finish was an 11th in 2000. He finished a dismal 26th in the spring race at the track earlier in the year.
Sometimes you can only go down so low, and Park and the Orleans Racing Team may well be poised for one of the best finishes of the season. Said Park, “We weren’t that good when we raced at Martinsville in April. I’m looking forward to going back and improving on that 29th-place finish. The team has grown since then. In April we were still searching for a lot of people and searching for the combination we needed to run up front. If we unload off the truck with the truck decent, then we should be able to tune on it a little in practice and run well. Martinsville has changed. I’ve talked to a lot of guys who have tested there. They say it limits passing. It will be at a premium to qualifying up front.”
Park and the team have a lot to prove and Martinsville may be just the place to do it.
