ROCKLIN, California -- Austin Cameron and the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS/NAPA Belts & Hose team brought home another top-five finish at this weekend’s race at Mesa Marin Raceway.
The #20 NASCAR Select by NAPA Filters/NAPA Belts & Hose team with driver Kerry Earnhardt and the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS team came to Mesa Marin Raceway ready to win. Second practice results had both cars in the top four on the board. Near the end of practice, Earnhardt entered the track and sustained damage to the #20 NASCAR Select by NAPA Filter Chevrolet. The BMR team went to work to make the needed repairs and made the decision to forgo a qualifying effort.
Earnhardt started near the back in 21st and by lap 18 had climbed into the top ten. By lap 40, the #20 NASCAR Select by NAPA Filter Chevrolet was running in 6th. Earnhardt and the BMR team’s day would end at lap 46 of 150. An engine problem ended their effort and the team finished where they started in 21st of 24 cars.
Cameron qualified the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet on the outside of row two and by lap 5 had moved into third. By lap 47, Cameron had gotten by the #08 of Scott Lynch and began challenging the pole-sitter Duncan for the lead. With less than 20 laps to go, the eventual race winner Brett Thompson and the #2 of Mike David made a hard charge to the front. With less than five laps to go, Cameron got past Duncan and would record a fourth place finish. Cameron and the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS team remain in second in the championship point chase as they head to the final race of the season at the Irwindale Speedway on October 23rd.
