BAKERSFIELD, California -- Brett Thompson collected his first career victory in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series when he won the Star Nursery 150 at Mesa Marin Raceway. The race was part of Mesa Marin’s annual October Classic.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the Grand National Division, which also includes the Busch North Series. The tire combination the West Series cars used on the half-mile at Mesa Marin is the same as will be used on the half-mile at Irwindale Speedway in November during the Toyota All-Star event.
Thompson, a veteran short track competitor, took the lead from Mike Duncan with 13 laps left in the race and held off a late challenge to win. Duncan led the first 137 laps of the event after winning the Bud Pole.
Mike David finished second by .350 of a second. Sean Woodside was third, followed by Austin Cameron and Duncan.
Duncan’s pole speed was 93.313 mph. He bested a field of 26 qualifiers. The race started 24 cars. Duncan now leads Cameron by 63 points as the Series heads toward the final race of the season at Irwindale Speedway.
