WENATCHEE IN REVIEW:
The win at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval moved Tom Pinkowsky from 12th to 7th in the points race.
Every car in the field broke the old track record set in 1990 by John Dillon.
The Manufacturers Championship is the tightest in recent memory. After 12 of 15 races, Chevrolet and Pontiac are tied with 6 wins and 88 points.
Tom Pinkowsky has four Winston Racing Series championships under his belt. He has three track titles at Portland Speedway and one at South Sound Speedway.
A blown engine may have cut short Joe Constance’s bid for a series title. The resulting 21st —place finish dropped him to fourth in the standings. 151 points behind points leader Pete Harding. Before the Evans Lease 125, Constance had made his way into the top-three in points with consistent finishes and by completing the most laps on the series.
TURNING TO SOUTH SOUND:
Wes Rhodes whittled away a little more at Joe Benedetti’s points lead in the Totem Travel Rookie of the Year points chase. Rhodes now trails Benedetti by three points with three races left to go in the season. Both drivers have had success at South Sound Speedway this year. Benedetti won the first race there while Rhodes was the Bud Pole winner in the series’ second visit to the oval.
Tom Sweatman continued his streak of top-five finishes. He now has five in a row. Sweatman looks to make it six in a row. He has a win and a fourth-place finish at South Sound Speedway this season.
Only 104 points separate the top-three drivers in the points race. Pete Harding leads Sweatman by 17 points. Chris Hart is third. Both Hart and Sweatman have a history qualifying well at South Sound Speedway. Harding on the other hand has had to take several provisionals to make the field at the track. Once in the field, Harding has made a habit of working his way up toward the front.
STAT OF THE WEEK:
With the next new Bud Pole winner in 1999, the series will tie the record for most different Bud Pole winners in one season. So far, there have been 10 different Bud Pole winners in 12 races. There was no Bud Pole awarded at the first race this season due to showers. Chris Hart leads the rest of the drivers in the season long race for the Bud Pole Championship with two.
