NASCAR TOURING UPDATENASCAR Touring Series

Austin Cameron of El Cajon, Calif., notched his first career NASCAR Winston West Series victory in the Snap-On 250 at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway this past Saturday night. Cameron, the 1998 series rookie-of-the-year, held off a late race charge from Kevin Richards to win by .516 of a second. Richards, Butch Gilliland, Joe Bean, and Sammy Potashnick rounded out the top five. Potashnick scored the Bud Pole Award while Cameron raced his way to the Gatorade Front Runner Award. The 250-lap race featured thirteen lead changes among seven drivers. M.K. Kanke of Granada Hills, Calif., became the 11th different winner in 12 events when he captured the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring race at Colorado National Speedway in Denver, Colo., this past Saturday night. Kanke took the lead on lap 24 in the NAPA 125 and ran to the fourteenth victory of his career over Kurt Busch. Busch, Joe Bellm, Kenny Shepherd, and Bruce Yackey rounded out the top five. Kanke captured the Bud Pole and the Gatorade Front Runner Awards. Tom Pinkowsky of Battle Ground, Wash., captured his first ever Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series, NASCAR Touring victory at the .250-mile Wenatchee (Wash.) Valley Super Oval this past Saturday night. Pinkowsky led from start to finish in the Evans Lease 125. Ken Kaltschmidt, Chris Hart, Pete Harding and Tom Sweatman rounded out the top five. Pinkowsky captured the Bud Pole and Gatorade Front Runner Awards. Kaltschmidt was the Totem Travel Rookie-of-the-Race. Point-leader Harding continued his consistent performances and increased his lead to seventeen over Sweatman. Nine NASCAR Touring Series blanket the United States, bringing special events to many NASCAR Winston Racing Series tracks and some NASCAR superspeedways and road courses. NASCAR Touring Series can provide a competitor with an entire career, or they can provide valuable experience to competitors moving through the NASCAR ranks. Corporate sponsors make significant contributions to NASCAR Touring Series point funds. The sponsors include R.J. Reynolds, Anheuser-Busch, Featherlite Trailers, Goodmark Foods, Goody's Headache Powders, Raybestos Brakes, and the RE/MAX Realty Corporation.
