SRL SHOOTOUT HEADING FOR STOCKTON

WILTON, California -- As American’s set to remember Veterans this coming Memorial Day weekend, thousands of fans will flock to Stockton 99 Speedway for round number four of the SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout. Over 25 drivers have pre-entered for the “California Welding Supply 100”.

One of those 25 drivers is Troy Ermish of Fremont, California. Ermish leads the point standings for the first time in his SRL career. Ermish has three top ten finishes under his belt this season. Troy has also been competing in the Rocky Mountain Challenge Series in Idaho and Utah when the SRL has not been competing. Jason Fensler won the SRL opener at Stockton 99 Speedway on April 3rd. He followed that up with a win at Madera Speedway on April 30th. Fensler sits seven points out of first place heading into the “California Welding Supply 100”. Ken Boyd qualified second at Mesa Marin Raceway two weeks ago as he returns to his home track where he won four straight track championships. 2004 Champion Steve Belletto sits fourth, two points behind Boyd. Belletto has two track championships under his belt at the historic quarter mile. Joey Zampa rounds out the top five. Zampa is the 2001 Stockton 99 Speedway rookie of the year and he also has two SRL wins at Stockton 99 Speedway.

Roseville’s Eric Schmidt won his first SRL event two weeks ago at Mesa Marin Raceway. Schmidt also has a track championship to his credit. In 2003 Schmidt won the late model track championship at Stockton 99 Speedway. Schmidt currently sits two points out of the top five in the sixth position. 2004 Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year Mark Smith currently stands in the seventh position just three points of Zampa in fifth. Rookie Rusty Buholz of Palo Alto is eight in the current standings. Buholz finished ninth at Stockton 99 on April 3rd. Roseville’s Jim Courage Jr. and his Ford trail Buholz by two points in the ninth position. Courage led 20 laps at Mesa Marin Raceway two weeks ago. Dave Byrd rounds out the top ten in points. Byrd is no stranger to Stockton 99 Speedway either. Byrd has won many main events and track championships on the tight high-banked ¼ mile racing facility.

Returning to the series this weekend is 2002 Rookie of the Year Rick Ruzbarsky. Ruzbarsky will be piloting the #24 Pontiac Grand Prix for car owner Rick Knudson and R&M Racing. Ruzbarsky finished second in the 2004 series point standings.

Troy Ermish also leads the Apex Financial Group Qualifying Points. Ermish has qualified in the top three in all three events this season. Jeff Belletto trails Ermish by one point. Jason Fensler currently sits third in the Apex Financial Qualifying Points. $5,000 will be divided between the top three drivers in qualifying points at the end of the 2005 season. Apex Financial Group is based in Stockton Ca, and specializing in home loans and the refinancing of property.

Palo Alto’s Rusty Buholz leads the Victory Circle Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year point standings. Buholz has a 16 point lead over fellow Rookie Jeremy Wood of Tracy. In addition to be crowned Rookie of the Year at the season ending awards banquet, the 2005 SRL Rookie of the year will be the recipient of a brand new 2005 Victory Circle Chassis. Greg Pott’s leads the SRL Late Model Qualifying Race Points standings. Carl Pearce, Jamie Dick, Ray Lawson Jr., Shannon Mansch, Harry Belletto, Wes Banks, Charles Perreira, Andrew Livengood, John Ostlund, and Chad Pais.

Casciaro Homes Hard Charger Award: Harold Rieker Jr. won the Casciaro Homes Hard Charger Award and was given a check for $150 from Casciaro Homes. Rieker started 19th and finished fifth at Mesa Marin Raceway two weeks ago. Aaron Days and Rusty Buholz are the other recipients of the Casciaro Homes Hard Charger award this season.

Stockton 99 Speedway is located at 4105 North Wilson Way. Traveling south on Highway 99, take the Wilson Way exit. The track is two blocks up the road just past the first stop light. On Highway 99 north, take the Cherokee Road exit, loop over the freeway to Newton Road and turn right. Drive one mile and turn left at the Wilson Way stoplight. From Interstate 5, get on the Cross-town Freeway and head east to Highway 99 north, then drive north on Highway 99 to the Cherokee Road exit.
