ROBERTSON SCORES ONE FOR THE LOCALS AT COLORADO NATIONALNASCAR AUTOZONE ELITE DIVISION SOUTHWEST SERIES
Source: NASCAR Public Relations
![]() ERIE, Colorado -- Jerry Robertson from nearby Arvada, Colorado came from the rear of the field to score his second NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series victory at Colorado National Speedway. Robertson put his Dodge in the 19th starting position after qualifying but headed to the pits during the pace laps to make an adjustment. The adjustment was just what he needed as he took the lead for good on lap 97 and stayed out front through four restarts during the final fifty laps to edge series point leader Jim Pettit II at the line. Burney Lamar improved two positions in the final four laps to finish third with Greg Pursley and Eddy McKean rounding out the top five finishers in the United Power/Touchstone Energy sponsored event. Robertson also collected the $750 PowerAde Award for improving the most positions during the event (18). Ed Belec collected the $300 Featherlite Award for improving the most positions (9) from the previous event at Pikes Peak. Rip Michels finished eighth after earning his first career Bud Pole Award and started tenth after the invert. "This is a big win," Robertson said. "I made the wrong call for qualifying and it hurt us. We made a pit stop during the pace laps and made the right changes. I am happy for Tony (Finley- Car Owner) and thank him for letting me drive his car. These races are never easy, but this was fun." Padding his point lead over Lamar by five points was Jim Pettit II. "It was a good points night for us and we did what we needed to do," Pettit said. "My team does an outstanding job and our performance this years shows it. I really love coming to Colorado and racing here at CNS. The fans are the best and the racing is always competitive." "I saw the opening and I took it," Lamar said after finishing third. "Eddy's (McKean) drifted up on the restart and my car worked real good on the bottom. It was a great race for the team and keeps us in view of Jim for the points chase." The next event for the Southwest Series is next Saturday night at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway for race eleven of the 14-race championship series.
