LOOKING BACK AT PIR:
· John Zaretzke became the first repeat winner in nine races on the 2000
Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series season.
· The win for Zaretzke moved him from 11th to 7th in the championship points
standings.
· When asked if the rubber on the track left by the Championship Auto Racing
Teams (CART) bothered the drivers, a common complaint in reverse made by the
CART drivers, Gaylon Stewart responded, "No, the rubber doesn't bother me.
But they are loud. When they hit the rev limiters, it hurts my ears."
TURNING TO YAKIMA:
· This will be the second visit for the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series to
Yakima Speedway in 2000. Kevin Quesnell picked up his first career win at
the spring race at Yakima.
· The first race was marred by a number of flat tires. Look for that
situation to improve this time around. The rumble strips installed in the
off season have had the edges worn down and should not be throwing pebbles
onto the track. In addition, the tire manufacturers will be bringing a
harder compound to deal with the summer heat.
· Just 34 points separate sophomore driver Ken Kaltschmidt and three-time
series champion Garrett Evans in the points race. The top-10 is separated by
only 244 points.
· So far this season there have been eight different race winners. That is
just two off the record set last year. Former race winners Garrett Evans,
Kevin Hamlin, Chris Hart, Joe Benedetti, Pete Harding, and Shane Biles have
yet to visit victory lane in 2000.
STAT OF THE WEEK:
· Kelly Tanner is the only driver to sweep all of the races at Yakima
Speedway in one season. This year the trick is a little harder with three
races to be held at Yakima.
