SWEATMAN AND SWANSON WIN AGAIN AT SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAYSOUTH SOUND

Jim Wilcox and Brad Stanwood started on the front row of the 100-lap race. Before a lap was completed there was a pile up in turn two that took Pat Schwartzkopf out of the race for the night. The race was restarted and Wilcox took the lead. While coming around for the second lap Mike Obrist spun in turns three and four down into the dirt. The rest of the pack finished the lap while the flagger waited to see if Obrist would restart. He didnt so the flag was thrown putting Obrist a lap down to the pack. The race got going with Jim Wilcox out front and Nick Behn in second followed by Tom Sweatman. Another caution was thrown on lap nine when Dan Obrist spun Brad Stanwood and Willy Thom spun to avoid the situation. Obrist was given a black flag and sent to the back along with Stanwood who stayed on the lead lap. Willy Thom had a small electrical fire on board but it was put out fast and Thom was fine but he was done racing for the night. Another caution was thrown on lap 20 when Mitch Franklin spun and went off the track. He was back three laps later for the restart. Ray Wallace jumped the restart by passing before the green flag came out and was flagged and lost one lap. Wallace went off the track a few laps later with a problem and was on and off a few more times during the night. At lap 31 Jim Wilcox was still out front with Nick Behn in second. Tom Sweatman was running third and took over second on lap 32 bringing Joe Constance around Behn also for third. On lap 57 the leaders were going into turn one when all three of them spun together into the corner. All three were put to the back and Nick Behn was now the leader with Brad Tanner in second and Al Carver in third. Also on the lead lap were Tim Gosch, Brad Stanwood and the three former leaders who had just spun. Lap 61 brought out another caution after Brad Tanner spun but stayed on the lead lap. Lap 77 brought out the final caution when Al Carver and Joe Constance got together. Constance got a flat tire and went into the pits but was back out losing only one lap. Al Carver stayed on the track on the lead lap. Jim Wilcox left the track on the caution and was done for the night. Brad Tanner was running third when something went wrong in his car and he pulled into the middle of the track. Mike Obrist was fighting hard with Nick Behn to get his lap back and did on lap 88. Tom Sweatman had moved his way back up to the front and took the lead from Nick Behn on lap 90. Tim Gosch lost a lap to the leader on lap 97. Tom Sweatman pulled ahead to win his fifth main event win of the season in the Late Model Super Stocks. Nick Behn was second, Brad Stanwood was third and Al Carver was fourth all in their best showings of the season. Mike Obrist finished fifth on the lead lap with a great comeback after his early race incident. Joe Constance finished up one lap down in sixth with Tim Gosch in seventh, Tommy Rasmussen in eighth, Bob Emerson in ninth and Curtis Zelmer in tenth. Bobby Micielli clocked in fast for the Top Notch Trailers Street Stocks with a 15.462. Cody Erskine won the trophy dash over Larry Gaylord, Kevin Boretsky and Sean Riley. Top rookie Jordan McGregor was unable to time in his car for the night because of mechanical problems but made it to the heat race and main event. McGregor won the B heat race with Kevin Boretsky in second and Bill Posh Jr. in third. Jim Swanson led all eight laps of the A heat race to win over Paul Hopkins and Ron Ehli. Bill Posh Jr. and Jay Hopkins started on the front row of the main event. Hopkins took the early lead while Jim Swanson moved into second. A caution came out on lap five for debris and then again before a lap could be completed when Chris Huisingh spun. Leon Ames took his car off the track only to bring it right back on and then off again. Jim Swanson took the lead on lap ten while Jay Hopkins dropped back to third and Paul Hopkins moved up into second. Paul Hopkins dropped out of the top three on lap 14. A caution was thrown on lap 16 for fluid on the track. Paul Hopkins, Sean Riley and Bill posh Jr. all left the track on that lap. Hopkins was the only one to return. Ford man, Jim Jussila was in fifth, in the #5 Chevy of Dan Woodward, at the restart of the race on lap 17. By lap 24 Jussila had moved into third spot and then into second on lap 27. By this time Swanson had a huge lead over the pack but Jussila made it up and with 4 laps to go Jussila was right on Swanson. Swanson held on though and won his third main event of the season. Jussila finished second with Jordan McGregor in third. Bobby Micielli was fourth, Ron Ehli fifth, Jay Hopkins sixth, Cody Erskine seventh, Kevin Boretsky eighth, Chris Huisingh ninth and Paul Hopkins tenth. Billy Wing and Craig Wright won the dashes for the Yelm National Auto Parts Bumblebees. Roy Talbott took the win in the first heat race after taking the lead on lap two. Jacob Mills was second and Kelly Bowen was third. Billy Wing led all eight laps of the second heat race to win over Brad Newbury and Craig Huffman. Brad Newbury took the lead of the main event on the first lap and never looked back. The top three remained the same throughout the entire race. Brad Newbury took the win with Kelly Bowen in second and Billy Wing in third. Gary Mitchell was fourth, Craig Huffman was fifth and Roy Talbott was sixth. Ken Meyer, Brice Bates Jr., Zach Floreck and Tonya Hird were the remaining top ten. Eleventh through fifteenth was Shannon Chase, Devin Matthews, Mandy Clark, Josh Wharton and Sarah Dillon. Eric McClain was the fast qualifier for the Vintage Modifieds while Mike Clother won the dash. Robert Rux led all eight laps of the B heat race to win over Chuck Peterson and Kiel Hobbs. Mike Clother won the A heat race with John Mustered in second and Bob Wheeler Jr. in third. Robert Rux took the early lead in the main event with Chuck Peterson in second and John Mustered in third. A caution was thrown on lap three when Kiel Hobbs slowed. Hobbs and McClain left the track on the caution. McClain was back three laps later. Hobbs came back seven laps later. The rest of the race ran caution free. Robert Rux led all 25 laps to win. Bob Wheeler Jr. was second, Mike Clother was third, John Mustered was fourth and Josh Wyne was fifth. This Saturday night with feature the North Star Yachts and Commercial Drivers Services Sportsman, Hinkle Homes Pure Stocks, Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks and the Mini Cup Open Division and Future Stars.
