NOTES OF INTEREST:
- The first two races this season at Evergreen Speedway each produced first
time winners on the series. Rookie Gaylon Stewart nipped Tom Sweatman to win
the season opener. Second year driver Ken Kaltschmidt claimed the second
race after apparent race winner Ron Eaton was placed last after
non-conforming fuel was found in his car during the post-race technical
inspection.
- Kaltschmidt holds a narrow 14-point lead over three-time series champion
Garrett Evans in the season title chase. Just 39 points behind Evans is the
1998 series champion, Gary Lewis.
- This is the first time since 1995 that Evergreen has hosted more than two
Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series races in a single season.
- This week it was announced that NASCAR has added a fourth Evergreen
Speedway race on the 2000 schedule. The race will be held on September 16,
one week before the season finale at Yakima Speedway.
|
STAT OF THE WEEK:
- Just three points separate the top-three drivers in the Totem Travel Rookie
of the Year race. Gaylon Stewart leads with 89 points. He is trailed by
John Zaretzke (88) and Matt Kelley (86).
