KEVIN RICHARD WINS LMCS RACE AT MISSION VALLEY SPEEDWAY

GRAHAM, Washington-- It was the number two that was favorable for Kevin Richards (Spokane, WA). At Pablo, Montana’s Mission Valley Speedway on July 2 and race number two of the holiday weekend in Montana for the Late Model Challenge Series. Richards who started the Firecracker 100 in the second position went on to his second LMCS win. Darrin Shaw (Salisbury, NC) finished a close second and Shelby Thompson (Spokane, WA) in the number three car was third for the third time this season.

Richards took the lead on lap three of the 100-lap feature on the tough but fast 3/8-mile tri-oval. Shaw had fallen back as far as sixth in the early stages of the race worked his way to second by lap 18 and made many fruitless attempts to pass Richards until he was successful on lap 60. It was then Richards turn to be the pursuer. It was a spirited battle between the two when Richards was able to pass back into the lead on lap 91 as the yellow came out. When the green flag flew with eight laps remaining, Shaw made many attempts and had the lead partially three more times but when it counted the most at the conclusion of lap 100, Richards was the leader and the race winner.

Third place finisher and second in the season’s championship point chase, Shelby Thompson had to use a last lap-last turn pass to get to the podium for the third time this year. Jason Hedrick (Graham, WA) finished fourth after running third for 99 & 3/4-laps. Moving from a seventeenth starting position, Cory Wolfe (Ronan, MT) finished fifth. Point leader Troy Conrad (Tacoma, WA) finished a disappointing sixth.

The LMCS has the remainder of the month off before they resume their ten race series with race number seven at Stateline Speedway on August 5 as part the tracks big three day Idaho 200. Many of the series’ drivers will use the time off to go back to Montana for the Montana 200 on July 14-16 at Montana Raceway Park in Kalispell.
