4TH OF JULY A SMASHING SUCCESS AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAYMONROE, Wahington -- The annual 4th of July Demo Derby at Evergreen Speedway had an overflow crowd and a lot of destruction. The night was capped off with a large pyrotechnic display, second to no other. The day started early with a large group of fans waiting to enter 2-hours prior to the gates opening. The front gates opened for the 7:00pm show at 3:30pm and within minutes the place was full.

There were many highlights during the mayhem. One was the spectacular attempt by Mr. Dizzy (Mike Buse) to jump a bus over 4-cars and into a cabin cruiser boat. As the bus rolled down the front stretch onto the launching ramp the bus flew and missed its mark by over jumping the target. It was still a sight to see with pyrotechnics as part of the jump. The standing room only crowd gave Mr. Dizzy a well deserved standing ‘O’.

The roll over contest was won by Curt Montegna (Flipville, WA), with 5-rolls in the opening round followed by three in the second and last round. The cone race winner was Brian Elliott. Steve Peters won the Figure Eight School Bus race. The fans voted Dave Rush as best of show in the popular boat race.

The Stinger 8 main was run in the rain when an unexpected thunder storm moved in. The race was very exciting with race leader Mike Middleton running on a rear tire that had folded under the hub when he was hit at the X of the figure eight. Middleton somehow was able to maintain the lead until the last lap when race winner Cody Koroshes made a pass as Middleton was unable to control the car. Ben Chandler was second and John Newbaum was third.

The Hornet division had such a large car count it took three twenty lap mains to accommodate them. In Main #1 Chris Record won, in Main #2 it was David Dixon winning and in the final Main #3 Chuck Brewster beat everyone to the checkers.

Twenty-one cars started the finale. When only one was left operating it was Mike Hartman taking home the winners share of the purse.

Next up at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA on Saturday July 8 is the Les Schwab Tires Night at the Races. The night features the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Super Stocks, Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Bombers, NASCAR Mini-Stocks and Northwest Legends on the 3/8-mile oval. The figure eight portion of the multi faceted facility will have the Super and Extreme Contact Divisions challenging the intersection of doom.

Front Gates open at 3:00pm with heats starting at 5:00pm and main events at 7:00pm. Tickets are available on line at www.evergreenspeedway.com or call the speedway office at 360-805-6100.####
