IT’S 4 OF 5 FOR HARDING AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAYEVERGREEN SPEEDWAY
Source: S. Ellsworth
If Shane Harding had made it to all of the scheduled Super Stock races this season he could be atop the points to repeat as champion. But with his commitment to the NASCAR Northwest Series he has missed two races of the seven run. Harding now has won four of five starts this season. Early race leader Naima Lang and point leader Doug Davidson got together on lap 21 that is when Harding got around the two and led the remainder of the 50-lap main. Rob Touchette finished second and Davidson third.
Frank Cowgill used the front row starting position to his advantage as he led all 30-laps of the Bomber main event. It was Cowgill’s first this season. Darrell Lutovsky was second with James Mugge a close third. Point leader Duane Schosboek finished fifth as he struggled with traffic trying to get to the front. Second in points Darin Stordahl suffering the same traffic congested woes finished seventh.
A first ever Mini-Stock winner Joe Hobbs kept out of trouble and on lap 20 of the 25-lap main got to the front and did not look back. Eric Angeledes finished second and Todd VanDiest was third. Point leader Mark Weedin had motor trouble and finished tenth while Nat Barber second in the points had his own problems only completing 19-laps finishing eleventh.
It was a controversial win in the Extreme Contact Figure Eight main for Steve Peters. With Bill Wade (second in points) leading, Steve Peters dumped Wade in uncharacteristic fashion. Normally there are a few bumps then a spin but Steve went directly for the jugular and spun Wade. While Wade was backwards on the track Sean Peters (son of Steve) the current division point leader went wide in the turn and ran into him sending Wade via tow truck to the pits. Sean finished seventh. Troy Simianer finished second after winning the three previous mains. Benny Raynes was third.
A large field of Super Figure Eight Division cars started the 30-lap main and when all was said and done Nick Gunderson, Doug Delfel and Steve Peters finished in that order. Gunderson’s grandmother was at the track celebrating her birthday and he dedicated the win to her.
The overall Northwest Legends main was won by Pro Division driver Rowan Carey. Semi-pro Division driver Nick Johnson fresh off his win of the first annual Legends Speedweek Series was second. Back at the track after some time off, Chuck Sherwood won his first Masters Division race.
Next up at Evergreen Speedway on July 15 is the Top Foods/Hagens Wired X Energy Drinks 125 for the NASCAR Auto Zone Elite Division Northwest Series and the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Super Stocks on the 3/8-mile oval. Also the FEAR Super Figure Eight Division will add more excitement with their antics on the figure eight surface. Racing begins at 7pm. Pre-Race tickets are available on line at www.evergreenspeedway.com or by calling the Speedway office at 360-805-6100.
