HARGRAVES FINISHES THE REGULAR SEASON WITH ANOTHER WIN

It was fan appreciation night at Yakima Speedway and the crowd was in full force to see some incredible racing. In the late model division it looked like Erick Hargraves was going to have some tough competition as Christopher Kalsch set fast time for the evening with Jack Mondor III winning the A-Dash and Owen Riddle taking the B-Dash. As the 15 car field took the green of the main event Ed Thompson of Pasco spun in turn two as he tried the outside groove of the track. After a complete restart the late models looked like they were ready to race when Aaron Newport, returning from a five year absence, touched Chance Overholt in turn three to send him spinning into the infield. On lap 14 Newport dropped oil all the way around the track and caused a red flag situation. When the race resumed Ashley Beaman got into Kalsch in turns one and two only to be sent to the back of the pack. While all of this action was happening, Greg Walden of Kennewick and Hargraves worked their way up to the front. When the checkers flew Hargraves took home the trophy with Walden second and Ron Bemis in third. In the street stock class Rick Christopherson set fast time and won the fast trophy dash along with the main event. An action packed main had Clayton Beaman getting into Buck Noel Jr. in turns one and two on lap two. On lap eight Chet Beaman Jr. and Andy Beaman made contact in turn two sending Chet off the track. On lap 21 Christopherson finally caught leader Casey Merrill and tried to pass him on the high and low side of the track until lap 27 when Christopherson passed Merrill on the outside on the backstretch. Merrill tried his best to stay with Christopherson only to spin coming out of turn four. At the checkers were Christopherson, Andy Beaman, and Tony Huffines. The H and H Furniture Hobby stocks saw some very close racing as Brian Pepper set fast time and Ben St. Mary winning the A-Dash and Marcus Maggard taking the B-Dash. Then it was Jerry Walker winning the first heat race and Jeff Stinson taking the second heat race. During the main event on lap 10 Eric Aruand spun in front of the leaders in turn two, as they were about to lap him. Showing excellent driving skills everyone missed Aruand. For several laps Darrell Wynn worked his way on the outside trying to take the lead when on lap 14 on turn two Wynn ended up spinning out into the dirt. On lap 27 Brandon Hailey tangled with Ben St. Mary to set up a green white checker situation. When the checkers flew it was Rich Peters taking home the trophy and Dusty John in second and Chris Van Amberg in third. The crowd pleasing Hornets and Bump to Pass cars rounded out the evening racing with Reese Kastl taking his first Hornet main event win and Scott Belcher taking home the honors in the Bump to Pass class on the little 1/5th mile track The next race will be September 2nd and 3rd for the last race of the NASCAR Northwest Tour Series at Yakima Speedway. On this two day event will be the Northwest Late Model Challenge Series on Saturday with Tour qualifications and Street Stock Action. On Sunday will be the Northwest Tour 200 lap race with the H and H Furniture Hobby Stocks running a full show. The next race for the Yakima Late Models will be the season championship on September 9th. Even though Yakima Speedway has a tire rule, all competitors will be able to purchase all four tires for this event.
