STOCK BUILDING SUPPLY PRE-RACE REPORT

This Saturday night Altamont will host the final points race of the 2006 season for the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Southwest Tour Series. It will also bring to a close one of the closest championship battles in the series’ twenty-one year history.

Rip Michels and his Stock Building Supply/Leeco Racing/Victory Circle Chassis Chevrolet Monte Carlo racing team currently sits on top of the points standings with an eleven point lead over second place, and forty-five points over third.

This will be Rip’s second career start at Altamont Motorsports Park. His first career start at the track was back on July 2, 2006, where he finished second.

The Team:

“It all comes down to this last race,” said shop foreman Boyd “Chip” Brown, Jr. “The team has been preparing the car, checking and re checking everything to make sure we have looked at every part on the car. We have been in championship battles before, and all of us on this team know that if we do our jobs, the driver does his job, and a little racing luck, we’ll have a shot of bringing home this championship. All we can do is try and achieve this goal, but just to have a shot is the real accomplishment.”

The Drivers Corner:

“I really like this track,” said Rip Michels. “It is similar to our home track of Irwindale Speedway. The turns are about the same with 8 to 12 degrees of progressive banking and are really wide. The straight-aways are much more narrower than at Irwindale, you have to be really careful getting under a guy. If they get loose, or you get loose, or they come down just the slightest, you can make contact. So you have to be careful not to make any mistakes.”
