ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY EMPHASIZES COMMITMENT TO LOCAL RACERS WITH MAJOR CHANGES FOR THE FUTURERON HORNADAY JR. ON OCT. 14TH
Source: Jim Short
A special appearance by NASCAR Craftsman Truck champion Ron Hornaday Jr. on Oct. 14 and several added money races will highlight the final four nights of the current season. But those are only a prelude to the changes that will take place during the fall and winter to make the 2007 racing season one of the best in memory for the quarter-mile paved oval at the National Orange Show Events Center.
The rejuvenation will start with a four-race “Winter Series” in December and January, and by the time that series gets under way the infield will have been graded and paved and a course laid out for the return of Figure 8 racing.
The popular Figure 8 cars will be fixtures on a tentative 30-event schedule that will begin March 3, a month earlier than in recent years, and conclude Oct. 27. There will be eight divisions sanctioned by the American Speed Association (ASA) and they will be divided into two groups that will race every other weekend, with a guest division rounding out each program.
Details of the plans and changes will be released in the next few days by Director of Racing Joe Ganino, who said there no longer should be any question about the National Orange Show’s commitment to the local racers and fans.
That commitment will be evident Saturday night, Sept. 30, when the Pro-4 stock cars close their season with a 50-lap main event worth an extra $750 in prize money. The ASA Super Late Models, Street Stocks, Sport Compacts and Mini-StocKars also are on the schedule of a program that will get under way at 6:30 p.m.
Hornaday, who parlayed his success at Orange Show and other area short tracks into a pair of Craftsman Truck series championships and a full-time ride in the NASCAR Busch Series, will use an off-week on the truck series schedule to join the Super Late Model regulars at Orange Show Oct. 14. That’s also Race Fan and Community Appreciation Night.
Hornaday will drive a Gary Stockman-prepared Chevrolet in a 100-lap main event, and the addition of $2,500 to the purse for the race will guarantee that it is the most hotly-contested race of the season. Tickets for that evening, at no increase in cost, will be available Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each business day at the Administration Building at Gate 1 on E Street.
The season will close Oct. 28 with 100-lap main events for the Super Late Models, Late Models and Pony Stocks, and the speedway has added $750 to the Late Model purse and $500 to the Pony Stock payout for that night.
The annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for Jan. 20 at the Events Center.
Racing at Orange Show Speedway is sponsored by Leno’s Rico Taco, Blackhawk Protection, CEC Embroidery, Golden West Tire, Lucas Oil, Soboba Casino, Budweiser, Sunoco Racing Fuel, Hoosier Racing Tires, Center Chevrolet, Pick A Part, Neff Rental, Pepsi, Loma Linda University Medical Center, J&M Trophy, Matich Corp., Lazer Radio (101.7 and 105.7 FM), La Salle Medical Associates, California Highway Patrol, KCAL radio (96.7 FM) and the San Bernardino County Sun newspaper.
