NASCAR THUNDER ROLLS INTO THUNDER HILL RACEWAY FOR ALLSTATE TEXAS THUNDER 200 TOMORROWNASCAR WEST SERIES
Source: TQ Jones
![]() More than 20 NASCAR "big rigs" rolled into Thunder Hill Raceway Friday afternoon as teams and drivers gathered for the second annual NASCAR Allstate Texas Thunder 200 Grand National Division AutoZone West Series race tomorrow, September 30, at the three-eighths mile D-shaped short track here just north of San Marcos. The Texas Thunder 200 is the highlight of the first weekend of the Allstate Texas Thunder & Lightning RaceFest. All 15 of the top Grand National Division drivers are entered in the Texas Thunder 200, along with a half-dozen more hoping to break into the top 15 in the last two races of the season and qualify for the post-season Toyota All-Star Showdown at California's half-mile Irwindale Speedway. The top 15 drivers from the two series of the NASCAR Grand National Division (the AutoZone West Series and Busch East Series) will be invited to the Toyota Showdown. The top 10 drivers from each of the four series that make up the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division will be invited for their own Toyota Showdown race, including the Midwest, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest Series. Grand National West Division points leader Eric Holmes has already qualified for the Elite Division showdown by finishing second in the AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series. He's trying to be the first driver to qualify for the Toyota Showdown in two series, not bad for a driver who isn't even registered in the race for rookie of the year because he only expected to run selected events in the Grand National Division this season.
The NASCAR Allstate Texas Thunder 200 is the first race of the 2006 "Allstate Texas Thunder and Lightning Racefest" at Thunder Hill, a three-weekend event that will end with the United States Auto Club (USAC) National Midget Series on October 14 and 15, 2006. It will mark the first time in nearly 40 years the USAC midgets will race in Texas.
Last year, the inaugural NASCAR Allstate Texas Thunder 200 was a sellout despite the addition of several thousand extra seats in portable grandstands just for this event at the nine-year-old facility.
