Source: NASCAR Public Relations
![]() KYLE, Texas -- Eric Holmes battled his way past Mike David on the final lap to score his first career NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series win with a victory in the Allstate Thunder Texas 200 at Thunder Hill Raceway on Saturday. Holmes and David, who have raced throughout the season for the lead in the championship standings, waged a fierce door-to-door battle around the tight 3/8-mile South Texas track. Holmes appeared headed to victory late in the event, before David slipped by in traffic on lap 196. Holmes was determined, however, and as the pair approached another lapped car on the white flag lap he made his move to the inside going into turn three. While Holmes was able to gain the lead, contact between the two left David spinning. Series rookie Brian Ickler finished second behind Holmes, with veterans Austin Cameron and Johnny Borneman in third and fourth, respectively. David recovered for fifth.
With the victory, Holmes extended his lead in the standings to 47 points, with one race remaining on the 2006 schedule. See Also .: News Index | E-mail to a Friend Article posted by RacingWest.com staff on 09/30/2006. http://www.racingwest.com
