MINDY’S MINUTEThis past weekend I enjoyed a weekend at home before heading on a three-week Sin City/California stretch. Right now, I am coming to you live from Southwest Airlines flight 542 heading to Las Vegas. My first week in Vegas will consist of the festivities heading up to the ACDelco NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the race itself. The following week, Ringers Gloves will have a booth at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturer’s Association, otherwise known as SEMA, quite possibly the biggest trade show to come through the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The NHRA also had a weekend off before heading into the home stretch of the 2006 season, but the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck Series were in action at Martinsville Speedway, while the Busch Series had the weekend off.

The Craftsman Truck Series kicked off the weekend’s action on Saturday afternoon. Billy Ballew Motorsports had Kyle Busch in the seat of the No. 15 Chevrolet for the weekend.

After qualifying ninth, Busch was able to endure the 200 laps and the wrecks during the Kroger 200 to bring home another top-10 finish for the No. 15 this year. Busch came across the line in sixth.

Orleans Racing, the other Ringers supporting team in the field on Saturday, didn't have quite as good of luck.

Brendan Gaughan, driver of the No. 77 South Point Casino Dodge was involved in an accident on lap two. Gaughan made contact with a couple other trucks and spun in between turns three and four. He didn’t have enough damage to damper his day and his crew was able to repair the No. 77 and send him back out. Gaughan fought his way back to the lead lap by the end of the 200 laps and he was able to rally to a 19th-place finish.

The Ringers supporting team of Penske Racing South and the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge and No. 12 Alltel Dodge both started in the top three on Sunday afternoon; Kurt Busch put the No. 2 on the pole, while teammate Ryan Newman secured the No. 12 in the third starting spot.

While both drivers and cars had super starting positions, it didn’t last throughout the race.

Busch spun on lap 364 after contact with the lapped car of Scott Riggs damaging his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger, however he was able to make it to pit road for repairs, but was only able to muster a 27th-place finish. Newman, on the other hand, was able to bring his No. 12 Alltel Dodger Charger home in 13th, even after a run-in with Casey Mears that sent him to the tail-end of the longest line on lap 66.
