TUCSON RACEWAY PARK - TWO MORE LAPS!TUCSON RACEWAY PARK
Source: Tucson Raceway Park
The heat races began with the INEX Bandoleros and Austin Trebilcock beating out Andrew Norman and Christian Vesper. The INEX Legends heat was total domination by Wes Fry, followed by Amy Elizondo and Suave Brachowski. The NASCAR Late Models had two heats with points leader Matt Williams winning heat one over Brad Moyer and Scott Strachan taking heat two over Duane Hunt Jr. The Townsend's Performance Factory Stock heats saw fierce battles by all with Kenny Kington besting Loren Sheffield in heat one and Casey Rohrer over Jeremy Smith in heat two. After a short intermission the Bandoleros lined up for their 15 lap main event and it was Trebilcock, the point's leader leading all the way over Norman and Vesper. Halloween at Tucson Raceway Park was sure to be exciting as the 100 lap Super Late Model field got underway just after 9 o'clock. Just as the event was ready to start, goblins took over the Tucson Raceway Park safety lights and Bill Simpkins and crew were forced to improvise the rest of the night as all the wiring had gone up in smoke. With just three laps in the books, a chain reaction crash on the back stretch took out Barney Visser from Denver Colorado and Scott Rueschenberg in his brand new Banghart tuned Pontiac. After a lengthy red flag to remove the damaged cars, we would go green again with slightly damaged T.J. Simmons and Tim Blodgett taking up the rear after hasty repairs. While Ron Norman and Joe Paladenic battled out front, Matt Levin, Robertson and Dick were racing hard for third. By lap thirty five Norman had already put four cars a lap down including last week's winner, James Beck. While Norman was leading out front, Tim Blodgett, in his wounded Monte Carlo had found some incredible speed and was charging through the pack and passed leader Norman on lap 91 to unlap himself. A lap 95 yellow bunched the field with Norman out front and Blodgett now back on the lead lap in sixth. With the crowd on their feet and five laps to go, Blodgett in his devilish Black 03 would charge through the field and finish on Norman's bumper to the delight of the crowd whom were all saying if he only had "two more laps."
With lots of rubber building up on the track surface the NASCAR Late Model main was sure to be exciting. Scott Strachan would lead the first two laps until Brad Moyer and Matt Williams slipped by on the inside. Moyer and Williams would fight hard out front until lap twenty one contact between the two sent Moyer spinning and both to the back of the pack for the incident. After the restart, Moyer and Williams would battle back from the rear as Strachan would make it two in a row over Matt Levin and Duane Hunt Jr. The last main event of the night was sure to be worth the wait and that it was! Loren Sheffield starting from the second row outside would take the lead on lap one and dominate out front while David Rooyakkers, Kenny Kington and Casey Rohrer went door to door, trick and treating the crowd to Factory Stock racing at it's best! Sheffield would survive a couple of yellows to take home his first main event victory over Rooyakkers and Kington.
