SACRAMENTO'S FENSLER WINS LEGENDS TITLE IN SONOMAINEX LEGENDS
Source: John Cardinale
Fensler, who suffered mechanical problems during qualifying at last year’s World Finals in Sonoma and failed to start the main event, took fourth place in Saturday’s 10-lap feature event in his 1934 Ford Coupe. The finish was good enough to help secure his first-ever INEX Legends World Finals title. Fensler entered the weekend tied for first place in points with Oklahoma’s Bobby Pugh. But Pugh had his problems over the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course, placing seventh in the feature. That enabled Fensler to take the championship in the Pro division. Michael Bryant (Bristow, Va.) took the checkered flag in Pro, overtaking Fensler on lap 9 for the win. He was followed by Jamie Clark (England), Martin McKeefery (Milpitas) and Fensler.
For Fensler, the championship capped a tremendous season that saw the Sacramento resident win nine of 12 road-course events, including the Silver State Championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He also won two of three events at Infineon Raceway. Fensler is a San Ramon native and a graduate of San Ramon Valley High School. In all, more than 130 drivers from around the country and the world competed at Infineon Raceway during the two-day event, which featured five-eighths scale cars capable of reaching speeds of up to 120 mph on the road course. The event featured competitors from as far away as England, Scotland and Spain. Other main-event winners on Saturday included: Las Vegas’ Dustin Ash (Thunder Roadster); Spain’s Carlos Sedano (Semi-Pro); and England’s Peter Morton (Masters). All main events were 10 laps.
