SECORD TAKES 50 LAP PRO 4 FEATURE AT THE I 10 SPEEDWAY IN BLYTHE.I-10 SPEEDWAY
Source: Dave Grayson
Tim Carruthers led the starters under the initial green flag and held the point until lap 11 when he spun out on the frontstretch.Unfortunately, it became the beginning of a tough night for Carruthers who would be involved in two more caution flags before the race was half over. That gave Secord the race lead which he never relinguished. It wasn't long before Secord began displaying his race dominance and started pulling away from the field. Only caution flags allowed the field to catch up with him.
The seventh, and final, yellow flag came out on lap 46 and eradicated a full straightaway lead that Secord was enjoying. It also set up a four lap shootout that gave John Soares one more opportunity to catch the race leader. However, Secord wasn't going to have anything to do with that and pulled off an excellent restart and made quick work of running out the final laps with Soares still behind him. Chuck Becker III, Kyle McGrady and Tommy Fowler completed the top five.
After the race a very happy Secord said "it's always a pleasure to drive a car that handles like that for 50 laps and it never really changed the whole night. I got out in front and didn't drive away but I did get enough of a lead on a couple of guys and that let me take a breather and relax a little bit."
When asked about the frequent caution flags that kept eradicating his race lead Secord said "you know sometimes caution flags are good. They cool things down and give you another run to try a few things but I really don't let the cautions get to me I deal with them and just go on with the business when the green flag comes back out."
Also seeing action, during the I 10 Speedway's Thanksgiving 250, were the Sunoco Fuel Pure Street Stock Division. In this 30 lap feature Terry Elmore and Kenny Faulkner came off of the front row and swapped the lead three times in five laps before Elmore took over for good. Richard Selph, Ryan Kerr, Dusty Hope and Danny Dill followed him under the checkers.
After the race Elmore noted that he was driving a brand new car and a lot of finishing touches were completed that very day. He managed to bring the car under the checkers despite the fact that it was badly overheating.
Unfortunately, a hot radiator was the least of his problems because a post race inspection turned up the fact that the new car had weight issues that didn't comply with the rule book so officials had no choice but to disqualify him. That action moved the field up one finishing posistion and gave Richard Selph his second main event win of the year.
