NEEDS LOVING FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME
Date: 12/23/2006
UPDATE: This little one is now in a foster home and is receiving donations to help with her medical expenses. Thanks to those that helped save her...you know who you are ;)
Note this dog is located in a very high-kill facility, the South Los Angeles Shelter*.
She has the face of a puppy but the profound sadness of an old dog who has suffered
much. She lies in her kennel with her face to the wall, completely unresponsive.
I called her many times but she would just ignore me. Yesterday I took her out
of her kennel. She trotted out in a weird, confused sort of way, her head down
and eyes facing the floor. She would not look at anyone.
She seemed happy to be on the grass. Being outside seemed very familiar to her.
She sniffed and wagged her tail a bit. When I brought her into the visiting area,
she avoided me. I tried to lure her with baby talk and still she ignored me, face
down-sniffing her new surrounds. Then it dawned on me--this dog cannot hear, she
is deaf!! I clapped my hands and whistled to confirm. THIS DOG'S WORLD HAS NO
SOUND.
I went to pet her and she let me but she did not seem to care. I lifted her head
to make her look at me but she averted her eyes. She seemed very uncomfortable
with being petted and loved, as if it was something she was not familiar with.
She kept politely trying to get away from me but I was relentless. I kept petting
her and talking sweet, even though I knew she could not hear my voice. I did this
for a while and then let her go explore the cement yard again.
After a while, she looked in my direction. I clapped my hands and motioned to
her to come to me AND SHE WAGGD HER TAIL! Then she surprised me and trotted straight
to me, tail still wagging, and let me pet her! SUCCESS!!
This dear little dog seems to have had the saddest. most lonely life. She is emotionally
shut down but I know with love and time, she would completely blossom.
She would be no trouble. She is a good, mellow dog who gets along with other dogs.
She needs out ASAP! Can anybody help her?
Wouldn't it be wonderful if she could be in a foster or forever home for Christmas?
