AS PICKED BY PAGE POPULARITY
Date: 12/30/2006
Every year RacingWest joins the fun of adding a top-ten list to the site. This
year we are trying something new by letting your computer mouse do the selection.
All selections are based completely off the most requested pages from the RacingWest
stats--that would be the pages your mouse clicked into, but of course with your
help.
Now how did all this work? We ran stats, organized them into categories and then added a brief description.
And now this year’s top-ten list as generated by your clicks and based on the most requested pages on RacingWest are:
10) Most Popular Motorsports Sanctioning: NASCAR
NASCAR held several of the top most popular stories--some they wrote and some
were wrote about them (not all of these were nice…but they still counted).
Articles most hit on were the demise of the Tour, the new technology and the
Showdown, with most of these penned by Jeremy Davidson.
9) Most Popular Motorsports Promoter: Steve Beitler of Skagit Speedway
The Kasey Kahne and Tony / Stewart Skagit Speedway release was hugely
popular and captured the most traffic in that category.
8) Most Popular Track: Madera Speedway
Not only did it have a one month ad on RacingWest and a plethora of press
releases, there was also a lot of news concerning the closure of the track and its being turned
into a Wal-Mart or Target to a campaign, "Save Madera Speedway" to save the track from just that happening.
7) Most Popular Car Owner: Bill McAnally
McAnally fields a multi-car team, runs a driver development and diversity program, is actively making restorations
to All American Speedway, and promotes the NASCAR Grand National West race at
Roseburg Oregon.
6) Most Popular Motorsports Race: NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown
When all the most popular pages on RacingWest were counted this by far was
the most popular race. The popularity of it was probably helped by having seventy
of NASCAR’s best grassroots racers all at one track at the same time.
There were even stories about racers struggling to get one of the coveted last
place invitational positions.
5) Most Popular Motorsports Sponsor: Stock Building Supply
Stock Building Supply did well with releases covering their
home shows, their race sponsorship and their driver, Rip Michels.
4) Most Popular Local Series: HOTWOOD 1000 at Stockton 99
Speedway
Stockton's "HOT" Late Models raced for an increased point fund in Stockton's
final season.
3) Most Popular PR: Mindy's Minute
Mindy Stephens writes the Ringers Gloves Racing Roundup covering everything
from NHRA to NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles, NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch and more.
The variety of her topics definitely spiced up the most requested page count.
2) Most Popular Racer: Spencer Clark
Spencer Clark was clearly the most popular. He started his rookie year with
a pole at Phoenix International Raceway in the NASCAR Grand National West Series.
Sadly in May of this year he lost his life in an accident at New Mexico. In
his honor the “Spencer Clark Driven” program has been established
to give other young drivers a chance at chasing their dream. When all pages
were added up, Clark was the second most popular of all stories posted on RacingWest.
1) Most Popular Motorsports Topic: Kern County’s Newest Home
to NASCAR
When all the pages were tallied up, the news on the new Mesa Marin (Kern County’s
Newest Home to NASCAR) was the most popular. The Collins and Destefani families
were RacingWest’s top story last year, a position they shared with John
Condren, CEO of Riverside Motorsports Park. Last year neither of these tracks
had a permit, now Mesa’s has been approved and Condren’s appears
to be on the homestretch. And if those two tracks aren’t enough good news
we now are learning of a newly proposed track in Tulare.
Well there you have it, RacingWest’s 2006 Most Popular List.
