FAP/WCS WELCOMES NEW MEMBER TO THE TEAMWAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY
Date: 01/24/2007
“Rich will be a great addition to our scoring team in the tower,” stated Tina Heil, General Manager of Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway. “He has filled in at Wayne County Speedway in the past as an announcer and also helped us out with our computer issues in years past. He’s extremely knowledgeable and he fit right in with our existing staff. So to have him join us full time is just another step we are taking to streamline our program. I’m really excited about it!”
Berry worked his first race at Expo Speedway in the very early 1980’s and from that point on has worked in numerous positions at race tracks as a track official, flagging, scoring, announcing, public relations and more. Berry has also worked with sanctioning bodies and has been a racecar owner & driver as well. Additionally, as a Motorsports journalist & columnist he has traveled extensively to over 200 different race tracks in 20 different states. Berry is a former columnist for Tri-State Auto Racing News and RPM Racing News.
In addition to his scoring duties, Berry will also have a hand in the announcing and overseeing the computer system in place at the track.
“I am really excited and looking forward to coming to Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway,” commented Berry. “It would be hard not to be excited. I have helped out there in a couple instances in the past. The enthusiasm that the staff and management have is contagious. I am really pumped up about coming on board.”
“I know what the track workers go through, and I know what the racers go through. And most importantly, I know how the fans feel and what they expect to see. I'm going to do my best to balance the needs of everybody, and we're going to do our best to send everybody home smiling.”
“I am very familiar with the computer scoring system. I have worked more races on the AMB system than anybody in the area, and have trained people that run the system at different tracks. I have been working with their software packages since they first introduced their software in 2003.”
“When they made some early updates to the software packages, some of the things that they worked on were the direct result of things that I had inquired about. They are great people at AMB and they honor their commitment to the tracks that use their systems. The transponder system isn't just a fancy attachment, it's the only real way to score cars properly and correctly, and we are going to use the system to its full potential.”
