MIDWEST SUPERSTAR AL PURKEY ENTERS PERRIS LATE MODEL OPENERPERRIS, California -- Coffeyville, Kansas Late Model superstar Al Purkey will be leaving the Midwest cold behind when he heads to Perris Auto Speedway for the 2007 season opener for the Art’s Concrete Pumping Extreme Late Model class on Saturday night, February 10th. In addition to the Late Models, the MC Builders Super Stocks, Street Stocks, the brand new PASSCAR Modifieds and the Pick-A-Part Cruisers will also be on the program.

Purkey, who will turn 45 years-old three days prior to the Perris race, is a five time champion in the O’Reilly MLRA series. His MLRA titles came in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2006. In addition, he won the O’Reilly NCRA crown in 2003 and 2004. Since 1997, the popular star has won a whopping total of 102-main events.

While Purkey will be a long way from home, he will be very familiar with the car he will be driving. Now owned and driven at The PAS by Sky Valley, California’s Mark Anderson, the car is one that carried Purkey to one of his championships in the Midwest and won several main events.

Purkey will face a stiff challenge from a bevy of PAS stars including defending series champion Art Peterson of Cathedral City, California. Peterson, who also won the 2005 Extreme Truck Championship at The PAS, is hoping to make history by becoming the first driver in history to win three PASSCAR championships.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on the 10th with racing at 6:30.

Anyone wishing more information can contact Perris Auto Speedway at (951) 940-0134.

Perris Auto Speedway is on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of the Southern California Fair), approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go two miles east to the fairgrounds.####
