HELD SPINS, WINS IN SCCA RACE AT CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY

FONTANA, Calif. -- Joshua Held took a page from Danny Sullivan’s book and won the D Sports Racing portion of the SCCA national points event at California Speedway Sunday.

Held, a San Carlos, Calif. resident, spun as the field charged toward the third turn on the first lap of the 35-minute event, then worked through the field to win his class.

“I had to fight all the way through the field,” Held said. “The track was good and the Goodyear tires were excellent. Then I broke the throttle stop in the last few laps because I was pushing too hard on the gas pedal and I had to be easy on the throttle.”

It was Held’s first national points victory.

The other winners included the amazing Tom Eddleman of Orange, California. Driving a vintage Austin Healey, Eddleman won the H Production class. He is 90 years old.
