OPEN PRACTICE WILL HELP TEAMS PREPARE FOR ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY SEASONORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY
Source: Orange Show Speedway Public Relations
The 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. test session is the first of two practices scheduled between now and March 3, when the 2007 stock car season gets under way, and for many of the drivers and teams it will be the first opportunity to assess the changes that have taken place in the off-season.
The infield of the quarter-mile paved oval has been paved and a course prepared for the return of Figure 8 racing, a new winner’s circle is under construction at the east end of grandstand adjacent to the midway, and an electronic scoreboard is being installed at the west end of the track, overlooking Turns 1 and 2.
No changes have been made to the racing surface, but most drivers will spend at least part of Saturday’s practice familiarizing themselves with the effect the paving of the infield will have on the track’s preferred inside groove and the transition between the track and the infield.
Representatives from Frank’s Radio Service also will be on hand to acquaint the teams with the one-way radio systems that will be in use this year.
The cost for the open practice is $100 per car; that includes the driver and crew members. All those needing to complete their registration for 2007 will be able to do so as well, with sign-ups continuing even if the practice is delayed or cancelled due to rain.
ASA and Orange Show Speedway insurance coverage requires all drivers under 18 to provide notarized proof of age and a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. There will be a notary on site to facilitate that process. In addition, drivers under 14 may compete only with an affidavit of eligibility from speedway director of racing Joe Ganino Jr.
A second open practice is scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m. March 2. That also will cost $100 per car.
Racing at Orange Show Speedway is sponsored by Lucas Oil, Blackhawk Protection, Hype Manufacturing, KTDD AM radio 1350, Leno’s Rico Taco, Soboba Casino, Budweiser, Hoosier Racing Tires, Frank’s Radio Service, Parker Pumper/BSR West, JP Striping, Center Chevrolet, Pepsi, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Matich Corporation, La Salle Medical Associates, Extreme Exhibits & Logistics and the San Bernardino County Sun newspaper.
